I’m Anton, a designer based in Berlin, currently finishing a B.A. in Interface Design at FH Potsdam. I got here sideways, though. Before design I studied Economic and Social Communication at the UdK Berlin and spent a few years working in marketing, so I’ve never really seen design and communication as two separate things.

At Potsdam the disciplines blur into each other on purpose, which suits me, because I’ve never been good at staying in one lane. I move between editorial work, interaction and UX, and the odd experiment that resists a tidy label. For years I also freelanced as a communication designer, mostly identity and print, usually on deadlines that didn’t much care how I felt about them.

Photography came before any of it. It was my first paid job and then quietly demoted itself to a hobby, an excuse to carry a different camera everywhere, from medium format down to scuffed old CCD digicams. Lately I’ve started shooting again for friends, for free, and it turns out working without a brief is still the best brief there is.

What holds it together is a soft spot for systems (grids, hierarchies, the flow from one screen to the next) and for the moment they run into something stranger: a machine-made image, a city imagined fifty years out, a dark room you can walk through with a headset on.
